Educational excursions not only enhance the knowledge of the students about China but also broaden their outlook and understanding of the Chinese culture. It is for this reason SIE conducts Perceiving Jiangsu excursions, to educate the students about things that are beyond the text books. SIE organizes Perceiving Jiangsu excursions every year to make us aware about the richness of culture and tradition just around us in Jiangsu province.
I had always desired to visit Nantong and experience its beauty and serenity. So I was quite thrilled when I came to know about this excursion. This trip was for two days, the 30-31th of October.
We began our excursion early morning on the 30th, We were around 45 students and our two teachers. Our bus left from school at 07.30 in the morning.
Our first two stops on day one, Nantong Museum and The residence of Zhang Jian, The Audit Museum, were captivating. We ended the first day with a visit to the Blue printing museum and we got to hand print our own square towels.
In the evening we checked into the hotel for the night, which had a spectacular view of the Yangtze River and the surrounding areas.
The next day right after breakfast and checking out of the hotel we headed to Zhang Jian Si yuan for a quick stop, went to Langshan afterwards, the scenic beauty, the birds and the greenery all around enthralled us and then Tangzha Ancient town to end the trip.
This excursion was really informative and taught me about the beauty and importance of silence. It also taught me to love and care for nature. I truly loved this educational excursion and am keenly looking forward to the next educational excursion. A big shoutout to all the teachers, the tour guides and all volunteers who made this trip possible in the middle of the pandemic.

Every city of China has a new and different culture to explore and rich history so Nantong is no different. Nantong is a historical and cultural city, and one of the first 14 coastal port cities opened to the outside world. The audit museum shows China's audit industry for more than 3000 years. Saw the residence of, Mr. Zhang Jian, a top scholar, educator in the late Qing Dynasty.
However, what took my breath away was the Longshan mountain on its top it had such a great view of the Yangtze River, never before I noticed Yangtze river look so beautiful. Also I can't talk about the experience without talking about the food, we had delicious local cuisines which was enjoyed by everyone
I would like to thank NMU School of International Education teachers for organizing this trip to this great city of Nantong.

On an early morning of Saturday, 30 October 2021, international students of Nanjing Medical University set off for an exciting 2021 “Perceiving Jiangsu” trip to Nantong city.
Despite the fast growth rate of economic and social development of Nantong city, still the city has managed to keep its long cherished cultural and historical relics. For example: the Nantong Museum—keeping and portraying the early industrial and farming civilizations in Nantong; former residence of Zhang Jian—a 100-year villa of the top scholar of the imperial examination, Zhang Jian, who returned to his home town to establish industries and open water transportation across the region; China audit museum—preserving information about great auditors from the ancient era; the blue printing museum—showcasing traditional ways of making clothes; and the Tangzha ancient town—early industrial area managed by Zhang Jian in 19th century.
As a student and “tourist,” it was interesting to witness and learn more about The Yangtze River, one of the important landmarks of the city, and economic development zone of the nation. It was not only exciting to cross on one of the largest suspension bridges (in the world), crossing the river, but also to climb the Langshan scenic spot, a 108-metre-hill with purple rocks, to view the greatness of the river. It was interesting to see how local people climb up the hill for prayers, and for the first time I saw a monk in one of the temples at the top of the mountain.
Finally, I would like to thank the teachers and organizers from SIE for making the trip culturally rich and memorable to all attendees. We had a taste of great Chinese recipes; learned the socioeconomic development of Nantong; participated in making square towels; and we had an amazing glance of sunrise, and the Yangtze River, from a hotel.

Nanjing Medical University arranged the trip for us to go to Nantong city and everyone loved it because it was amazing.
I had no idea that medical schools in China can come up with so many great ideas for international students. NMU is not only about studying in a boring fashion, it’s about exploring and getting more eager to studying. I had a lot of opportunities not only to meet new people but also to make friends with them. I got to learn a lot about Nantong city and its history. moreover, Chinese history and culture.
The school arranged our trip to Nantong Museum, China Audit Museum and Blue Calico Museum, the best part of which was making the handicraft. We also went to Haonan Bieye and Se Yuan where we got to learn a lot about Mr. Zhang Jian. The view of the river from the top of Langshan Mountain was gorgeous and mind blowing. The thing I loved most about Tangzha ancient town was that we could have a chance to make our own handmade soaps. Our school also arranged for us a really cozy hotel for spending the night. I absolutely loved the experience and I really liked the Chinese food we had, there were many new dishes that I tried for the first time, even though I have been living in China for quite a while.
I think activities like this are really beneficial because they give the students a feeling of pleasure after going through the tough medical studies every day.
Last but not least, I want to thank Nanjing Medical University, thank Jiangsu and thank China for all the opportunities provided.

The School of International Studies, NJMU organized the activity of “Perceiving Jiangsu” to Nantong was another memorable event in my life here as a student. Nantong is well known for its industry complex (cotton, oil production and soap). Other tourist attraction included the Nantong Museum, China Audit Museum, Blue Calico Museum, Langshan Mountain or temple, etc.
We learnt how to be altruistic and dedicated like Zhang Jian (a top scholar, entrepreneur, governess and native of Nantong) who did a lot for his people by setting up industry complex to support the economy. The China Audit was established for checks and to bring corrupt officials to book. Students also had the opportunity to make blue calico prints and design by themselves at the Blue Calico Museum. It was amusing! We climbed the Langshan Mountain to the very top and had a clearer view of the Yangtze River. What a big river! We also went into the temple which was the first time experience for me and most of the students. At the Nantong Museum, we learnt a lot about artistic and historic works. This shows how China cherishes its great culture!
This trip was really helpful and has refreshed us once again, to continue the rest of the semester. It was such a very great fun!!! Thank you SIE!

Educational tours are part and parcel of the life of students. I took part in the 2021 "Perceiving Jiangsu" tour organized by the School of International Education to Nantong station. My visit to Nantong was very enjoying and educative.
My first visit to the Langshan Mountain not only strengthened my muscles and increased my stamina, but also made me enjoy the mesmerizing view from the mountain top. I developed love for nature and got real happiness when I visited this place.
The second visit to the Nantong Museum was very fascinating. They provided us with a historical analysis, as well as instructions on how to understand the world and situate ourselves within it. While on vacation in my home country a few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit a number of museums. I did not realize the worth of such things until my visit to Nantong.
Third, I also got the golden opportunity to visit the residence, cemetery and the factories of the top most scholar in the late Qing Dynasty. It was a great honor to visit the places of this great man. It gave me the urge to work harder as a student.
Last but not the least, my visit to the blue calico museum enthralled my desire for art work. Having the opportunity to create a sample design was very fascinating. Notwithstanding the various histories behind each print. It was really a great opportunity to be part of this trip.
This sightseeing of Nantong city up to sunset point enthralled me to such an extent it revived my fatigued spirits.
Thank you NMU SIE for this great opportunity.
